Sleepy, Sneezy & Bashful

This picture was taken while I was volunteering at Mote Marine Laboratory in Sarasota, Florida.

A large pod of dolphins beached at a nearby beach of which only 7 were able to be rescued. (They were each named after the 7 dwarves) By the time I was working there, three remained, Sleepy, Sneezy & Bashful.
As they were wild and released back into the Gulf if they survived the ordeal, we interacted as little as possible with them. One day I did have to assist with some blood tests and got up close and fairly personal with one of them; a once in a life time event I will never forget.
As far as I know, all three did survive and were released and were tracked for a couple of weeks.

Why Wait till Last Minute??

Hello Friends...

This week-end I had the pleasure of working at the veterinary clinic again... So this time it was on the Sunday rather than the Saturday and this generally means it is a little bit more easy going. Thankfully this was the case yesterday as my head is still spinning after the Halloween endeavor from 2 weeks ago.
So, everything was running quite smoothly, not too many emergencies and not too many sad goodbye's of beloved animal compagnons either. All in all, a rather quiet Sunday afternoon at our local vet.

But, it is worth mentioning that there always seems to be one person who just does not get it. And by 'not getting it' I mean, not getting the fact that when their animal has been sick for a couple of days....it is wise to not leave the phone call to the clinic 5 minutes before we are due to close the doors!!!! I mean, if it is an emergency, of course we are there to receive anyone with open arms and treat their 'patient' till midnight if we have to...

But please....if your cat/dog/rabbit/guinea pig/hamster/budgie/giraffe or elephant has an on going problem for years; or has been vomiting for the last 4/5 days.... please don't wait till we are getting ready to go home after a long day.... Chances are the Vet on duty is going to have you come back the next day for a proper consult anyway.... So, you could save yourself and lovely pet an extra trip..... and receive lots more smiles when you don't leave things last minute...

But then again.... we are all guilty of doing just so aren't we???

Including myself...;-)

Box Fetish? Anyone?
